A Taste of Tempus

If you know me you'll know one of my favourite things to do is number one; go out for dinner and number two; drink wine with my friends, and a few weeks ago after a Thursday working at my internship I headed along to The George Hotel on George Street, Edinburgh to the restaurant Tempus to taste their new summer menu, (having missed breakfast that morning due to missing my first train and then accidentally getting off my bus three stops early and having to walk a mile and a half to get to work in place of the usual five minute walk had I got off at the right stop, I was definitely looking forward to tasting the new menu.)

I cannot praise the staff at The George Hotel enough, the service was incredible and the food, wine and cocktails were divine (if you follow me on instagram you might have seen my sneak peak pictures including one of an Elderflower Tattoo cocktail which was lovely, it was made with Sailor Jerry rum and St Germain elderflower liqueur, yum!) I'll mainly let the photos do the talking but I will go into detail about my favourites.

A wee insight into the menu, this was just the first page of Starters; we sampled canape sized
servings of each dish, the perfect way to get a little taste for what you liked best on the menu.


My favourite starter was the 
Rope Grown Mussels with Shallots, Garlic, Herbs, Fresh Lemon & Cream Sauce
; the mussels were in such a really nice creamy sauce.

So much wine, Bibendum came along and did a bit of wine tasting with us, I've grown up tasting
really good wine and learning all about it, so it was nice to taste some new wines I hadn't tried before.

The pan fried bream fillet was divine, definitely a favourite, but to be honest I really enjoyed all three.
Pan fried bream fillet, 28 day aged sirloin steak, Slow cooked belly of pork.

Loch Duart salmon fillet, Rump of Lamb and mini burger; my favourite here was
the rump of lamb, it was so tender, I'd definitely order this again!

I love dessert; Pineapple Carpacchio with Panacotta, Lemon Tart with Clotted Cream ice cream and Coconut ice cream (I'm not usually a coconut fan, but this was so delicious!)

Sadly not the best of photos; Cheeseboard, Sticky Date Pudding and Coffee Creme Brulee; definitely my favourite I am a coffee addict so this was right up my alley; it was perfect (Gillian who I was sharing with doesn't like coffee, so I had it all to myself, cheeky!)

Now for the surprise, after an incredible tasting menu and wine tasting, we were taken up to the Panorama suite roof terrace where we were treated to a beautiful sunset, a gloriously warm evening and champagne, truly perfect and most certainly something a little different from every day.

Despite being situated right in the middle of George Street, the roof terrace was peaceful and had some stunning views, it was truly amazing.

I cannot recommend Tempus at The George Hotel enough, delightful cocktails, tasty food, perfect views and amazing service; I'm a student but I love eating out and so when I do decide to splash out I like to know that the experience will be worth the money I am spending, though Tempus is a little on the pricier side, the food and drink on offer is worth every penny. I'll definitely be returning in the future, perhaps to celebrate my 21st with a few of my friends who can't make it to my 21st party!

I always love any opportunity to catch up with my blogger lovelies over some good food and wine and this was no exception, a perfect evening. And of course a big thanks to Toni at DADA for inviting me along.
